Absolutely beautiful.

The production is off the charts here. I really love how you start slow, and gradually make a slow and methodical build-up. The composition and sound design really reminds me of an interlude section of a Sleep Token track (but thats just probably me lol)

You have managed to fill those 6 minutes with intricate and original ideas, which progress naturally. I think we share a lot of common things with eachother in terms of composition and sound design - from the slow build up to the constant experimentation.

I dont know if you are planning to participate in NGADM this year, but ill really hope to see you there. I know you didnt make the cut last year, but Ill be sincerely wishing that you will earn a spot in the finals (and i would def not want to be placed in a group with you holy shit lmao)

You have a very bright future ahead of you. Keep it up!

Thank you, BBank!
I’ve been working on producing these kinds of long, dramatic, and almost cinematic buildups for the last few months, and I’ve really enjoyed how climactic it can sound. Also, being compared to Sleep Token is a HUGE WIN

This is a huge relief, because I was initially worried that I wouldnt be able to keep the song engaging for the full 6 minute runtime! There were a lot of other ideas that were planned for the song, but it’s important to only implement the best ones— otherwise I might’ve had a VERY boring 15-minute song lol. I’ll have to check out your music, see what we have in common!

I do plan to participate in the Audio Deathmatch this year, although I’m seriously doubting my ability to QUICKLY produce a track, or even come up with a good idea for one in time. SunVox is a grind! If you DO end up matching against me by some chance, I will be the one worried XD

Thank you, I’m really growing confident that that is true… I think my motivation to keep learning this craft and my ability to make emotional music could make for a really wonderful combination down the road. So I absolutely intend to keep working! :D

This sounds like a cooler version of the Wii Menu theme.

It flows naturally, the song only picks up from the first quarter, however, it is done very neatly.

Keep it up!

Thanks for listening glad you liked it :)

OFFICIAL NGBSC REVIEW (upon request):

Composition wise, you have pretty decent ideas. The track has nicely structured melodies and crescendos that in themselves are suitable to picture a boss theme. I also like the occaional switches in keys and time signature, which help the track to flow naturally, without the entire composition going flat.

Production wise, it is lacking. Most of the instruments sound synthetic and artificial, and some of them are not balanced and loud enough (for example the drums and percussion).

Mastering and mixing wise, its OK, apart from the things mentioned in previously. For me, the drums and percussion were way too quiet, and the whole track was lacking dynamics, and loudness (especially at the crescendo's at 00:36 and 02:00). For this reason, the track loses a lot its energy, which is crucial, even more when you are making boss music.

Overall, your good ideas here are unfortunately paired with mediocre execution at best, preventing it from sounding even remotely close to something boss related. Even with the fluffy and silly allure this track is having, i think this could have worked to make a weird, but interesting boss theme. Having good ideas but no technical skills is still the better version (as opposed to having no good ideas at all), because production and mixing/mastering knowledge comes with experience.

With all being said, you are definitely on a good track, keep it up! :)

Yup, here I am! Being tortured with unhinged questions and not being able to hold my laugh!

What can I say, I'm insane.

Im really impressed with you, Choc. Your work over the years has improved dramatically, and i daresay that this is worthy of an FP. A unique and well-produced track.

Keep it up!

darkmangopsychology responds:

Thank you! Since I changed DAWs, I really improved a lot.

OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

OGMM IM REALLY REALLY GLAD YOU LIKED IT <3333

The harmonic elements in these songs are great, and perfectly suited to trance. I also liked the ending, how one instruments fades away after another, gradually over time.

Mixing wise and composition wise also, there is definitly room to improve. The song is lacking low-end altogether, which should be a key feature in a trance song, and in any EDM song in general. The drums could be more punchier, especially the snare. The synths, while they harmonically sound well, they are not well integrated within the mix.

I would normally give this a 2.5-star, ill up it by a half, knowing that this was made in a pretty basic software, and that you also made it in a very short amount of time. However, i REALLY recommend putting something more complex together, because you have potential, and you can certainly do it!

Keep it up!

darkmangopsychology responds:

I chose this software because it's free and easy to use, and I think the standard drumset preset doesn't really have a lot of punchiness. You're right about mixing, I have troubles with mixing and I don't know anyone in the server that uses JB or a similar DAW besides @Anonymous-Frog.

YOSHAAAAA JESSIEEE!!!!

Im smiling ear to ear hearing this, and im also glad that you are well. The track is just... perfect. Nothing more to add.

JessieYun responds:

BANK! I’m so glad to see you’re doing well too :)) thanks for checking my track, and I’m glad you enjoyed it!

The sound design is off the charts, and the melody is indeed haunting, all while it maintains a jazzy style. I like this!

Good job man. <3

Codefreq responds:

Thanks, BBank! :) I was hoping to stretch a bit more this time around so I'm glad to hear you liked the sounds I came up with.
